In October 2016 two IAU scientific meetings were held in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia: LARIM 2016: XV Latin American Regional IAU Meeting 3-7 October 2016 and IAUS 327: Fine Structure and Dynamics of the Solar Atmosphere 9-14 October 2016. J. Čalogović and M. Dumbović attended both meetings and presented their work “Cosmic ray modulation by corotating interaction regions derived from satellite measurements” and “Catalog of Large-Amplitude Oscillations in Solar Prominences”.
26-30 September 2016, XIVth Hvar Astrophysical Colloquium “Solar and Solar-Terrestrial Physics: Now and in the future” was held in Hvar in the organization of Hvar Observatory (all PoKRet team members took part in the organization committees). The scientific sessions included following topics: Observing techniques, Campaigns and Databases, Activity of Sun and Solar-Like Stars, Eruptive Processes in the Solar Atmosphere, Solar-Terrestrial Connection and the Heliosphere, Space Weather and Space Climate Forecasting. More information can be found here.
The 25th edition of the European Cosmic Ray Symposium took place 5-9 September 2016 at the University of Torino. The main goal of the Symposia is that of spreading throughout the European Physics community the information concerning the status of the research in cosmic rays and related fields, recent results, newly emerging ideas and forthcoming experiments. M. Dumbović and J. Čalogović participated and presented their work ”Forbush decreases caused by expanding ICMEs: analytical model and observation”. More information on the conference can be found here.
The 15th RHESSI Workshop took place at University of Graz 26-30th July 2016. RHESSI (Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager) is a NASA Small Explorer Mission for the Investigation of high-energy X-ray emission from solar flares. B. Vršnak attended the workshop and presented a poster “Solar eruptions”. More information on the workshop can be found here.
Jaša Čalogović visited the Institute of Physics, University of Graz from 5 to 8 July 2016, where he held a seminar "Cosmic rays and clouds: an important climate factor?" in which he presented his previous work, that connects the solar activity and the Earth's climate. During a visit to Graz further collaboration was arranged in order to analyze the impact of coronal holes on the Sun on changes in cosmic ray flux and geomagnetic field of the Earth.
Bojan Vršnak participated in a workshop on the curriculum for the facultative secondary-school courses of Geoinformatics, Botany of aromatic and therapeutic flora, and Solar astronomy, which was held in hotel Amfora at Hvar, July 5-6 2016, in the frame of the educational project HvaR&D. In the scope of the Solar astronomy, a collaboration between Hvar secondary school and Hvar Observatory is foreseen.
European Astronomical Society organised EWASS 2016: European Week of Astronomy and Space Science from 4 – 8 July 2016 in Athens, Greece. S. Lulić and T. Žic participated and presented their work "The drag-based model in a complex numerical environment" and "Formation of Coronal Large-Amplitude Waves and Chromospheric Response".
From June 27 to July 1, 2016 Bojan Vršnak attended the ISSI workshop: "The scientific foundations of space weather", held at the International Space Science Institute (ISSI) in Bern. In his invited talk "Solar eruptions" he presented basic physical processes and mechanisms governing the initiation and dynamics of Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) and the relationship between CMEs and solar flares.
Bojan Vršnak attended the Community of European Solar Radio Astronomers (CESRA) 2016 meeting: „Solar radio physics from the chromosphere to near Earth" that was held in Orléans / France, June 13-17, 2016. Together with Alexander Nindos (University of Ioannina), he was leading the Working Group 2 "CMEs, shock waves, and their radio diagnostics" and presented the report on the Working Group 2 activities at the Plenary Session on the last day of meeting.
